Absurd ads thank Evers for ‘standing up for our freedom’

By M.D. Kittle

MADISON — A liberal group wants you to praise Gov. Tony Evers, who killed several election integrity bills, for “protect(ing) our freedoms.”

Yes, the same far left governor who locked down Wisconsin, closed businesses, and left cities to be attacked and burned in leftist riots is “standing up for our freedoms,” according to The Wisconsin Initiative.

The group, which bills itself as a promoter of “progressive policies,” launched what it says is a “six-figure” radio and digital ad campaign attacking “GOP-led efforts to restrict our freedom to vote,” while praising Democrat Evers’ vetoes of the election reforms.

“Over the past year, there have been increasing attempts to suppress the voices of Wisconsin voters and undermine the integrity of our elections,” states the shadowy Wisconsin Initiative in a press release. The release includes no information about the status of the group or the people behind it.

One of the scary-sounding ads claims the election integrity bills are an assault on veterans.

“Our veterans. They defended our country and our freedom. They came back from overseas only to find the values they fought for threatened here at home. The threat? Republican legislators are trying to take away our freedom to vote,” the ad declares.

Evers has been roundly criticized by election integrity advocates for vetoing bills that would have checked manipulation and abuses of state election law. Most of the measures grew out of the concerning practices uncovered in the 2020 presidential election.

A bill by Sen. Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville), would have banned “Zuckerbucks” in Wisconsin election administration. Private liberal groups, funded with hundreds of millions of dollars from CEO Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, embedded themselves in election offices in heavily Democratic cities in Wisconsin and other battleground states in the run-up to the presidential election.

Liberal groups took advantage of the pandemic to accomplish their goal of eroding or outright killing voter ID and other election integrity laws.

“It shouldn’t come as a surprise that left-wing activist groups are placing six-figure ad buys in the same municipalities that disproportionately benefited from the seven-figure grants made by Mark Zuckerberg’s front group to influence the administration of the 2020 presidential election (i.e., Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay and Racine),” Stroebel said.

Other bills would have closed voter ID loopholes to those who claim “indefinitely confined” status, banned ballot harvesting, and required long-term care facilities to admit Special Voting Deputies unless there is a declared health crisis.

Liberal groups like the Wisconsin Initiative like to confuse election integrity with their blanket accusations of voter suppression. They do so in the face of sweeping state and national support for election integrity laws.

“I’m sure Wisconsinites are thrilled to hear that ‘veterans,’ ‘seniors’ and their ‘disabled neighbors’ are patting Governor Evers on the back for vetoing legislation that would prohibit out-of-state billionaires from interfering with our elections, let alone all the other bills designed to enhance transparency, uniformity and integrity in our election system,” Stroebel said.

“The ad buy in question should be viewed as nothing more than a futile attempt at damage control.”

The ads encourage listeners to call Evers  at 608-266-1212 and “thank him for always standing up for our freedom.”

You can call the same number to tell Evers he was wrong to veto legislation that would have strengthened Wisconsin’s pursuit of free, fair and transparent elections.

  • I agree with David. This administration has no morals or ethics!!!! Our communities are suffering because of their radical decisions. It is damaging to all of us! “We the people” need to clean house and vote with our conscious and not the pocket book.
