All Woke Up: AOC’s $58 ‘tax the rich’ shirts

Empower Wisconsin | Dec. 7, 2020

AOC, the face of American socialism, is making a killing off her merch line.

U.S. Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who has excoriated the greed of capitalism, is selling sweatshirts that say “tax the rich” — for $58 a pop.

AOC was rightly mocked on the semi-free marketplace of ideas known as Twitter. One commenter noted that the Democratic Socialist is selling “tax the rich” shirts that only the wealthy can afford.

“When you’re aiming for socialism but you hit capitalism,” one tweet poked.

Conservative pundit Ben Shapiro tweeted, “For $27, you can buy AOC’s bullshit t-shirt rather than spending it paying off loans you voluntarily took.”

Ocasio-Cortez, whose $174,000 salary and premium taxpayer-funded benefits make her wealthier than most Americans, defended her pricey shirts, insisting she pays American union wages for the production of her wares.

Perhaps, but AOC’s campaign is the benefactor.

“The proceeds from the apparel don’t go to a charity, but Ocasio-Cortez’s political machine, with a disclaimer on the website warning ‘Purchases are campaign contributions,’” the New York Post reports.

And the campaign is doing better than a lot of companies. It raised nearly $19 million in the last election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Government.

While the Queen of Woke calls for a socialist America, she’s making big money as a capitalist.
