All Woke Up: Canceling History

Empower Wisconsin | Aug.6, 2020

Those who chose to forget the past — or wipe it out altogether — should be condemned to listen to state Rep. LaShawn Ford prattle on about white privilege and systemic racism.

The Illinois Democrat recently issued a press release calling for the immediate removal of curriculum and books that “unfairly communicate” history.

We’ve seen plenty of history literally dragged down before our eyes this summer. Ford wants to rip it out of history books in Illinois classrooms. The lawmaker seeks to replace all that “racist” stuff with courses that ensure “students understand the democratic process.”

Does he mean the Democratic (Party) process of race-baiting and identity politics?

Ford demands a “suitable alternative” to history as presently taught.

“When it comes to teaching history in Illinois, we need to end the miseducation of Illinoisans,” said Ford, a former history teacher in the Chicago Public Schools.

I wonder what history will tell us about the early 21st century cancel culture. Its purveyors, of course, will be hailed as great patriots, if the woke write the history books.
