Big liberal groups behind Barnes’ climate trip

Empower Wisconsin | Dec. 6  2019

By M.D. Kittle

MADISON — It probably comes as little surprise that the funders of Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes’ trip to the U.N. Climate Change fiesta in Madrid are big-time backers of far left causes.

Barnes’ spokesman said his travel expenses to COP 25, the U.N. Climate Change Conference, are being covered by the U.S. Climate Action Center.

What’s the Climate Action Center? It is a climate change alarmist hub coordinated by left-wing groups like the Center for American Progress, the World Wildlife Fund, and Bloomberg Philanthropies, the charitable arm of billionaire Democrat presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg.

These groups are not just the Climate scare varsity team, many are devoted to liberal policy transformation well beyond the environment. Plenty are vocal supporters of radical programs  such as the Green New Deal, the wealth redistribution scheme popularized by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York).

The Climate Action Center is also coordinated by the so-called “Climate Mayors,” a coalition of some 400 city leaders committed to fulfilling the phony Paris Climate Accord. They despise President Donald Trump’s decision to keep the U.S. out of the non-binding accord that punishes pollution reducers like the United States while giving mega polluters such as China a pass. Bloomberg plans to pump a lot of money into the cause, as he tries to drum up support for his presidential campaign.

Climate Mayors is more about Trump resistance than it is about carbon reduction footprint, the Texas Public Policy Foundation asserts.

“Resistance to Trump has become lucrative — to the point where over 400 mayors are building up their political stock instead of their local economies,” the foundation asserts in a column originally published last month in the Daily Caller.

“The mayors of Los Angeles, Houston and Philadelphia formed a group called “Climate Mayors” in 2014. It admittedly took on a new tone and approach under the Trump administration. One of its key initiatives includes a commitment to ‘adopt, honor and uphold’ the Paris Climate Accord. As a result, we now have numerous case studies of how Paris-induced policies raise costs, depress economic growth, and harm those most in need,” the foundation’s Mandy Gunasekara wrote.

When it comes to Climate Change scare tactics, no organization rivals WWF (the wildlife fund, not the wresting federation).

As Empower Wisconsin reported, the WWF helped bankroll the documentary “Our Planet” in which Sir David Attenborough falsely proclaimed that walruses distraught over climate change are committing suicide en masse. It marked the latest chapter in bogus reporting that has included the phony polar destruction narrative.

The U.S. Climate Action Center highlighted its 27,000-square-foot pavilion at the 2017 Climate Change get-together in Bonn. Officials boasted that the pavilion hosted American cities, states and businesses as the base of their operations during the two-week conference.

“The message to the world in Bonn was crystal clear: the U.S. is still in” the Paris Accord.

Barnes will be part of the party this week, serving as an ambassador of sorts of liberal Gov. Tony Evers’ radical climate change agenda.
