Combating COVID hysteria

Empower Wisconsin | Dec. 10, 2020

MADISON — Coronavirus cases have surged, but panic has spread faster — thanks to power-grabbing government officials and a mainstream media fixed on feeding fear.

Alex Berenson,  former New York Times reporter and author, has poked at the panic machine. He recently pushed back on the Wisconsin “hospitals on the brink” narrative in a series of pointed tweets.

“Let’s talk about Wisconsin. Nice Upper Midwestern state that this fall has gone through an all-too-typical media cycle of #Covid hysteria about overrun hospitals and context-free death counts. It starts in September. Cases (positive tests) are up. Hospitals are on the brink…” Berenson tweeted on Sunday.

He included a dire Milwaukee Journal Sentinel headline declaring, “Some hospitals forced to wait-list or transfer patients as Wisconsin’s coronavirus surge continues.”

In October, “tests spike and the warnings get grim.” Gov. Tony Evers ordered the 530-bed “field hospital” at State Fair Park in West Allis opened.

“Side note: a field hospital isn’t what you think. The admission criteria for these places essentially mean they can accept only people who are healthy enough to be discharged but for whatever reason aren’t ready to go home.” Berenson noted. One in Massachusetts has exercise bikes, he added.

Wisconsin’s field hospital was at 4 percent capacity through last month, Berenson said.

“Which doesn’t stop the panic reporting from spreading, well, virally. Somehow though we are always ‘on the brink’ or ‘just weeks’ from hospital collapse, we never quite get there…”

Meanwhile, the reporter asserts, the state data show “hospitalizations are down ~20% since the mid-November peak (as of Dec. 6). This is exactly the same pattern we saw in the Sunbelt this summer — it is the same pattern everywhere. A 6-8 week surge that ends abruptly an declines slowly…”

Yes, Wisconsin has seen a spike in COVID-19-related deaths, another 81 on Wednesday alone, for a total of 3,887 deaths, according to the state Department of Health Services. But who is dying of the coronavirus? As of Sunday, Berenson reported, 21 percent were in people over 90, and 3 percent in people under 50. (No one under 20 has died of #Covid in Wisconsin.) That’s not to discount the loss, but the science shows the real threat is to the oldest and most vulnerable. Government lockdown policies have failed to follow that science.

Berenson then included in his tweets what he claims to be a photo of “What the deaths actually look like — from the Milwaukee coroner’s office” The photo, he says, shows the three most recent cases for which specific causes of death are listed.

“Yes, that first case is of a 102-year-old, and the third of someone who had cirrhosis and pancreatitis,” he tweeted. “The reason average people no longer fear #Sarscov2 isn’t because they’ve been brainwashed. It’s because they aren’t brainwashed anymore.”

  • A joke becomes a jayus when those who hear it laugh, not at the joke but at the person’s failed attempt to deliver a punch line – this is Covid, only laughable because Evers and other useful idiots obviously not only don’t know the punchline, they don’t even know it’s a joke. Like our failed attempts to organize a recall, the punchline wasn’t delivered.

  • Finally someone telling the truth!!! Enough with the fear mongering. It is time for people to wake up and realize they have been duped. Let’s get back to work, take off the masks and breathe free. Open stores, restaurants and go back to school. Everyone should ask themselves
this question, Am I willing to continue this as long as the people in power demand it? And then consider this, not one person shutting down business and eliminating your job has missed a single paycheck!! ! So who is in charge here? We hire them, they work for us, maybe it,s time to take away their paycheck. Time to let them know enough is enough!!
