MADISON — To no one’s surprise, Gov. Tony Evers has killed Christmas with the return of the politically correct and religiously intolerant “Holiday Tree.”
And nothing says, “Let’s keep Christ in Christmas,” like the Democrat’s call for science-related ornaments.
In another move to remove all evidence of former Gov. Scott Walker’s tenure in office, Evers has gone back to calling the decorated tree in the Capitol rotunda the Holiday Tree.
Walker ended the lame tradition in 2011 when he put “Christmas” back into the 40-foot Balsam Fir and dropped the banal “Holiday Tree” descriptor. In so doing, the Christian Republican ticked off the atheists and anti-Christmas crowd (any mention of Christ’s birth anywhere near a government building hurts their tummies).
Forgotten along the way, of course, were the millions of Christians, who constitute more than 70 percent of the state’s population. Many were offended by the homeginizing Holiday Tree.
Evers is kicking out Christmas with a vengeance. The governor is now seeking science-related ornaments for his Holiday Tree, a political jab at Walker and the Republicans, who Holiday Tree-loving Democrats accuse of downplaying science.
“…I first began my career as a science teacher in Baraboo, so I know how important science is to the future of our state,” Evers said in a statement … “(T)his year we want students to make holiday ornaments that celebrate what science means to them, their families, and their communities.”
That’s where the most festive memories are made, of course. Gathering around the Holiday Tree, shimmering with science ornaments, to recall the old yuletide tales of the Periodic Table and sustainable and renewable energies.
Looks like the governor who stole Christmas has lost his Jingle Bells.
