MADISON — In September, a Legislative Audit Bureau report found 99.5 percent of calls to the Department of Workforce Development’s call centers went unanswered in the first three months of the pandemic.
As hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites lost their jobs because of COVID-19 and Gov. Tony Evers’ lockdowns, the report found 93 percent of telephone calls to the dysfunctional DWD’s call centers were blocked or received busy signals. Another 6.2 percent were abandoned by claimants who gave up after spending hours on hold.
Empower Wisconsin has obtained exclusive footage of DWD’s Complaint Department at the height of this great disconnect.
