Hold that thought

A wise person once said, “Never pass up an opportunity to keep your mouth shut.”

Whether you’re a politician or just passionate about politics, there has never been a better or perhaps more consequential time for conservatives to heed this advice.

Conventional wisdom and the social media trolls tell us to get our licks in and strike while the iron is hot. Doing so will only ensure that the iron never cools down, and that is precisely what the left wants.

Whether you support Donald Trump or detest him, he will no longer be president in eight days and the left will have to answer for their own failings and lack of leadership. That is unless conservatives continue to point fingers and fight among themselves.

What happened at our U.S. Capitol last week was appalling and frightening and should never ever happen again. The people responsible for the destruction and violence must be held to account. Eight days before the inauguration of a new president, those words should suffice.

The American people are not stupid, and the record will be corrected in due time.

Politicians who would use this exact moment in time to virtue signal or jockey for position are more likely to damage their future than advance it. It’s always better to stay above the fray as the loyal opposition loses their shit than to get down in it and throw it at each other.

As Jim Geraghty noted in National Review, “Without Trump as a punching bag, governors such as Gavin Newsom will need to build public support on their own merits. Judging from the vaccine rollout in many states, that’s going to be a lot more difficult.”

Grace, dignity and self-restraint will serve us all well.

  • Pelosi committed sedition when she tore up Trump’s state of the union address. We kept quiet. Trump got impeached. The left took over main stream media. We kept quiet. Now conservatives points of view are not only not seen in the news, we are banned from social media. There were issues of possible voter fraud due to mail in ballots and bloated voter rolls as uncovered by Judicial Watch. We kept quiet. We lost our Republican president. It was actually Pelosi’s crimes that brought protesters to D.C. but we kept quiet and actually blamed our President. We’ve lost our country. Sure, good plan. Any errors the commies commit will be covered up by the leftist controlled news media. Yup, good plan. Keep quiet.

  • Felons throughout history have shown an abysmally low aptitude for tying nooses so let’s not abrogate our responsibilities so soon – giving them enough rope is rarely the solution, knowing how short to make the rope may be more effective.

  • I hadn’t thought of that:

    That would include Governor Evers as well. Spotlights will find new targets. And more than a few democrats won’t enjoy the limelight!
