Jon Stewart smokes media, scientific community on Wuhan lab leak

By Evita Duffy, The Federalist

Comedian Jon Stewart joked during Monday’s “The Late Show” about how obvious it is that the Wuhan virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where the Chinese have been engaging in dangerous, U.S.-funded gain of function research on coronaviruses.

Stewart started off the segment by saying people owe a great debt of gratitude to science for helping ease the suffering of the pandemic, “which was more than likely caused by science.” Colbert then asked Stewart if he believed the COVID-19 lab-leak theory, to which Stewart immediately replied that “it was a little too weird” that the coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan, China, where there is a “novel respiratory coronavirus lab.”

“What do you mean — do you mean perhaps there’s a chance this was created in a lab?” Colbert asked. “If there’s evidence I’d love to hear it.”

“A chance?” Stewart exclaimed. “Oh my god, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China. What do we do? Oh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab!”

Stewart then broke into hilarious fake dialogue with the Chinese lab researchers:

And then they asked those scientists, they’re like, ‘How did this— so wait a minute. You work at the Wuhan respiratory coronavirus lab. How did this happen?’

And they’re like, ‘Hmm, a pangolin kissed a turtle?’

And you’re like, ‘No, the name of your lab — if you look at the name! Look at the name! — let me see your business card! Show me your business card!’

Oh, ‘I work at the coronavirus lab in Wuhan.’

‘Oh? because there’s a coronavirus loose in Wuhan. How did that happen?’

‘Maybe a bat flew into the cloaca of a turkey and then it sneezed into my chili, and now we all have coronavirus.’

“Oh my god, there’s been an outbreak of chocolatey goodness near Hershey, Pennsylvania,” Stewart exclaimed. “What do you think happened? Like, oh, I don’t know. Maybe a steam shovel mated with a cocoa bean — or it’s the f-cking chocolate factory! Maybe that’s it!”

Leftists erupted online, but Stewart’s fake dialogue is essentially what happened when the World Health Organization’s panel of investigators traveled to Wuhan, China, to research the origins of the pandemic. Their subsequent “report” dramatically downplayed the probability that the virus came from the Wuhan lab, instead propping up theories like the ones Stewart joked about.

Throughout the WHO investigation, Chinese authorities silenced scientists, resisted an investigation, and expunged and denied access to data. The Chinese government demanded complete control over all research into the pandemic’s origins. In fact, much of the report’s data was gathered by Chinese scientists and simply given to the WHO team.

Colbert snidely asked Stewart how long he had worked for U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who has consistently pushed for a real investigation into the Chinese lab. Stewart pushed back, saying the lab leak is “not a conspiracy” but a “problem with science,” which he said has a tendency of going too far. Stewart pointed to the creation of the atomic bomb as an example and claimed that scientists may one day be responsible for the end of humanity.

Indeed, the lab-leak theory is far from a conspiracy. Even President Joe Biden was forced to order U.S. intelligence agencies to examine the origin of the pandemic last month, since there were so many obvious problems with the original WHO report.

One of the good things about COVID is that conservative voters were tricked into not taking it seriously. They didn’t socially distance, wear masks, or get vaccinated. As a result, more of them died than did liberal voters. Do you hear that hissing sound? Do you remember those leaks Donald kept whining about? It’s the Retardican Party deflating like a blow-up doll.
