Leave it to Evers: A danger on the roads

In one of the dumbest photo-ops of his executive tenure, Gov. Tony Evers’ is seen with Department of Transportation crews “fixing” potholes. As they “work,” the Democrat and his DOT Secretary-designee Craig Thompson appear to be breaking several workplace safety rules.

Fitting that the pictures and press release were sent on April Fool’s Day.

Evers and Thompson made three stops across the state on Thursday on “Pothole Patrol” to “repair potholes and discuss the governor’s Badger Bounceback agenda’s investments for local roads and highways,” according to the press release. They graced the highway crews with their presence in Chippewa Falls, Wausau, and Appleton, and spoke with local leaders about their communities’ needs.

“I always said we were going to fix the darn roads, so that’s what Craig and I spent the day doing,” Evers said, repeating the theme used by Thompson and his former road builder lobbyist organization to help Evers get elected.

While the governor has been iron-fisted in his mask mandate, he’s loosey goosey on highway safety equipment, based on the photos.

The crew should be wearing safety glasses. They’re not. Evers should be wearing safety glasses and side shields. He’s not. In one photo, the governor is next to a swing hazard — a shovel at head level — without a hard hat.

But OSHA rules be damned. Mr. Mask Mandate has a photo-op to fix.

  • Hey, construction workers, you know that really big pothole, the one that two politicians would fit in? Sure would be a shame to leave it unfilled…

  • Looks like a typical gov employee road crew, (not private contract), two working, two watching. union label. Has to be two more trucks with supervisors enjoying coffee and sweet rolls near by. Piss poor cold patch gone by summer.

  • You missed another ‘no-no’…

Czar Evers is shoveling the ‘bad tar’ towards the storm drain…you do it so that the risk of it going down the storm drain is minimalized.

Another job opportunity down the drain once he leaves office…

  • The photo op was likely geared toward the Union guys, however breaking Union rules about basic safety equipment won’t get them many points. Plus, try and make us all wear masks at all times, plus social distance, but not following that either? Idiotic if you ask me.But no one will since I am not a dem.

  • And the hiway workers were whispering, ” who are these two jerks?” Never having lifted a shovel in his life except to get dog poo out of his yard as a kid, both men needed to see a chiropractor to relieve muscle spasms from stretching unused muscles.
