MADISON — Nap-and-spend Gov.Tony Evers was up past his bedtime Wednesday delivering his State of the State address.
While laying out his big-government priorities, the Democrat admonished the Republican-controlled Legislature that much remains to be accomplished before they adjourn the shortened session.
“There’s no rest for the elected, folks, and we’ve got a lot to get done before anyone takes a vacation,” Evers said.
This from the governor who puts in a gruelling 4 1/2-hour day. The same governor spotted on early afternoons playing pickleball at the executive mansion. The same governor who admitted that if he writes “one email a day, that’s an extraordinary day.”
Evers has plenty of big spending ideas for the weeks ahead: making the most stringent and expensive standards on groundwater chemicals in the world; hammering vaping; sticking taxpayers with student loan debt.
He might have to work a six-hour day to get all of that in. Hurry up lawmakers! Pickleball season is right around the corner.
