MADISON — The guy who took “Christmas” out of Christmas tree has taken the tree out of the Capitol altogether.
Gov. Tony Evers recently announced there will be no “holiday tree” in the State Capitol rotunda this year. Why? You guessed it … COVID-19.
The Capitol has been closed to the public since March, the start of the pandemic.
Gov. Scrooge sent teachers a letter saying he would not accept student-made ornaments this year because there will be no tree.
Last year, Evers ended former Gov. Scott Walker’s long-standing practice of calling the tree what it is — a Christmas tree. Instead, Evers dubbed it the “holiday tree” and asked Wisconsin students to submit “science-related ornaments.”
The governor has asked students to send their ornaments to hospitals, nursing homes and veterans homes. He’s calling for a theme of “hope,” as he preaches fear in canceling Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Happy holidays.
