MADISON — Hypocrite Gov. Tony Evers is again preaching from his gospel of political civility.
But Republicans don’t need a lesson on what’s “unbecoming” from a liberal governor who once called his opponents a bunch of bastards before his staff secretly recorded them.
In a press release, Evers blasted Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) for calling on incompetent or corrupt (take your pick) Wisconsin Elections Commissioner Meagan Wolfe to resign.
Tony thinks that’s mean.
“Speaker Vos’ comments are unbecoming of his office and the people we serve,” the governor said. “It’s my expectation—and one Wisconsinites share—that elected officials in this state treat others with civility and respect. The speaker’s behavior today fell woefully short of those expectations.”
Pale Rider needs to climb down from his high horse.
First of all, the speaker was expressing the opinion of a lot of people following Wisconsin politics these days. A recent damning legislative audit and bombshell charges of widespread wrongdoing has exposed the Elections Commission and its executive as the law-breaking, partisans they are.
And Evers is the last one to shake his bony finger at anyone on the subject of civility.
This is the same hyper-partisan liberal who called Senate Republicans “amoral and stupid,” simply because they rejected the confirmation of his leftist attack dog Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection secretary.
“We can’t let the bastards keep us from doing our good work,” Evers reportedly said of Republicans.
Not very becoming of Mr. Civility, who likes to lecture everyone about “Wisconsin values of kindness and respect.”
Those values didn’t seem to matter when it counted, like when Evers or his team pulled a Richard Nixon and secretly recorded Vos and then-Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. For good measure, they made sure their friends at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel got a copy of the illegal recording so they could write some unflattering things about Republican leadership.
They got caught. Tony Evers was once again exposed as the jerk he really is.
So spare us the lecture on civility, governor. Your hypocrisy is showing.
