Leave it to Evers: Tony’s Equity Tree is back

MADISON — It’s that generic time of year again when vanilla Gov. Tony Evers calls for kids to send in their decorations for his politically correct “holiday tree” in the Capitol Rotunda.

This year, the virtue-signaling governor is inviting Badger State students to contribute handmade ornaments “showcasing their hometown, neighborhood, or local area, the strength of neighbors and community, or what their hometown or our home state mean to them.”

That’s quite an assignment from the guy who fancies himself the “Education Governor.”

“The past two years have challenged our state and our country more than we ever could have imagined, but Wisconsinites have displayed incredible resilience and we have worked together to face some of these challenges head-on,” the Democrat said.

“When we were facing some of our toughest days, one thing remained the same—the grit and tenacity of us as people and the strength we find in community and the place we call home. Home means different things to all of us, and we hope this theme will help us celebrate the strength, diversity, and beauty of communities right here in Wisconsin.”

Of course, Evers has proved to be one of the biggest challenges to Wisconsinites over the past few years. Students and families should send in hand-made ornaments depicting how they have tried to survive this lousy governor.

Small business owners could make miniature restaurants or stores with tiny “closed” or “limited capacity” signs. Kids could create little schools with locks on the front doors, commemorating the “lost year” in education the governor did nothing to stop. The people of Kenosha could send in ornaments of their downtown in flames from the rioters that ravaged the Lake Michigan city on Evers’ watch.

For the third straight year, there will be no Christmas tree at the Capitol. The 32-foot balsam fir again received the Holiday Tree designation from a Woke governor who has insisted on taking the Christmas tree out of Christmas.

Last year, Evers banned the seasonal tree after closing the Capitol to visitors because of COVID.

State Reps. Shae Sortwell (R-Gibson) and Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) decided Wisconsin more than ever needed a little Christmas. So they set up a smaller artificial Christmas tree in the Capitol Rotunda. Team Evers had it taken down.

In his first year in office in 2019, Evers ended former Gov. Scott Walker’s long-standing practice of calling the tree what it is — a Christmas tree. Instead, the liberal dubbed it the “holiday tree” and asked Wisconsin students to submit “science-related ornaments.”
