Libs push hefty gun tax

April 22, 2020

By M.D. Kittle

MADISON — The COVID-19 pandemic isn’t just deadly — it’s distracting.

Take a look at what liberal members of congress are doing while the nation’s attention is turned.

An extreme gun-control bill introduced by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) would, among other things, ban the purchasing and possession of semi-automatic “assault weapons.”

Liberal lawmakers, of course, decide what constitutes an “assault weapon.”

The so-called “Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act” would also slap a 30 percent tax on firearms, and a 50 percent tax on shells and cartridges.

But the government would get a break.

“No firearms, pistols, revolvers, lower frame or receiver for a firearm, shells, and cartridges purchased with funds appropriated for any department, agency, or instrumentality of the United States shall be subject to any tax imposed on the sale or transfer of such articles,” the bill states.

More constitutionally questionable, the legislation would require firearm owners to obtain a federal license for any gun purchases after the implementation of the gun-control measure.

Therein lies the rub for the liberal lawmakers. The legislation has yet to pass the Democrat-led House, and would seem to stand no chance of making it through the Republican-controlled Senate and surviving President Donald Trump’s veto pen.

But in a time when the nation’s attention is focused on a health crisis, it’s best to keep an even closer eye on the government.
