Madison mad it can’t give more tax dollars to illegal immigrants

Empower Wisconsin | March 4,  2022

MADISON — Leave it to the leaders of socialist Madison to regret not being able to hand out more federal taxpayer money to illegal immigrants.

“An emotionally conflicted” Madison City Council this week awarded $700,000 in federal COVID relief to assist undocumented immigrants through several organizations.

The complaint from some members of the council is not that tax dollars are going to assistance for people living in the United States illegally, but that the money will mainly go to Latino illegal immigrants.

The grants will fund legal aid, transportation, rental assistance, food benefits and Internet access.

“We thought that the biggest impact we could make with this way too small amount of money was what we proposed,” council Vice President Arvina Martin, who sits on a committee that made the recipient recommendations last month, said, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. “We really felt that we could serve more people with the recommendations we put out from that committee.”

As the newspaper notes, “a majority of the groups recommended by city staff serve Latino immigrants living in the United States illegally, but also included more nonprofits than what was ultimately approved that have experience aiding Southeast Asian, Hmong and African immigrant communities.”

The emphasis on groups serving Latino illegal immigrants didn’t sit well with other community organizations left out of the city’s largesse — gifts, once again, paid for by federal taxpayers.

Radical leftist group Freedom Inc., which has advocated for rioters and defunding police, was one of several organizations denied a seat at the trough.

While illegal immigrants are not eligible for most federal benefits such as Medicaid and the food stamp program, congress did not set strict restrictions on pandemic relief to undocumented residents, according to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau.

And liberal cities have taken full advantage to fund direct payments and social programs for illegal immigrants.

In April, New York marked $2.1 billion of the state budget to benefit undocumented residents ineligible for stimulus checks. Nearly 300,000 illegal immigrants were eligible for lump-sum payments, starting at $3,200.

Gov. Tony Evers’ office did not respond to Empower Wisconsin’s question asking if the governor supported using COVID relief funds for illegal immigrants.

  • As far back as I can remember, I have always swallowed illegal immigrants. I paid taxes with my father. I always loved it when he paid taxes. I knew how much he loved doing it. And I loved his illegal immigrants. Please don’t judge me, him, or the Invisible Hand. I loved every minute of my time with my father. It wasn’t shameful, evil or anything of the sort. Illegal immigrants loved him, he loved them, and I loved money.

  • Typical Berkley East. Why don’t you commies in Madison use your money to the people who broke the law coming here.? Maybe when our economy gets so bad, as it is, Madison will get less money. Can’t wait. Buying votes will get you nowhere. The eyes are on the ballot boxes !

  • The money allocated to illegals in Madison was designated for Covid purposes, I thought. Instead it is being funneled into a slush fund for special interests, donor PAC’s, and being given out to illegals who broke our laws to be here.
Maybe this is the type of activity that the Chief Thief spoke of when he said during the SOTU that he would be having the biased Justice Department investigating fraudulent use of Covid funds. Oh darn, I forgot that he was probably only talking about Florida, Texas, and other Republican lead states.
