Munchausen Tony: Making folks sick so he can feel better

MADISON — Isn’t it amazing!

Just as all hope seemed lost, Gov. Tony Evers emerged from his pickleball game to save the day.

As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel gleefully reported, the U.S. Department of Agriculture “signed off on a deal that will preserve about $70 million” in monthly federal food assistance aid to low-income families in Wisconsin. The deal comes compliments of the Evers administration, the newspaper gushed.

“More than $70 million a month means we can get support to a lot of folks across our state who are still struggling in the midst of a pandemic and need help putting food on the table,” Evers said in a statement.

Evers, of course, could have supported a lot of folks sooner had he chosen poor people over his vindictive liberal politics.

The Democrat in early February vetoed a bill passed by the Republican Legislature that would have made sure Wisconsin didn’t miss out on tens of millions of dollars in monthly federal food assistance payments. Evers killed that measure because it also would have forced him to give up full control over the $3.2 billion in federal COVID relief funds.

The food assistance money is tied to a federal provision that requires Wisconsin have a public health state of emergency in place. Evers has frequently disregarded the law and issued so many emergency orders and statewide mask mandates without the consent of the Legislature. The Wisconsin Supreme Court recently struck down his invalid declarations.

But now, suddenly, Evers is the hero — according to Evers and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

He’s more like a guy with a kind of political Munchausen syndrome by proxy. He hurts “folks” and lies to them. He insists his political enemies can’t help them, that only he can save them from their suffering. Of course, all he had to do was sit down with Republicans and work with them in the first place and the problems could have been solved.

Evers doesn’t want their help. And he knows the people whose lives he has complicated and unnecessarily made more difficult don’t want their help either.

That’s the kind of proxy assistance this vindictive liberal governor pushes aside, because only Munchausen Tony can save the day.
