Never Again: Holding Evers accountable for riot-ravaged Kenosha

MADISON — Nearly a year ago, rioters destroyed large swaths of Kenosha. It didn’t have to be this way.

Just hours after a police officer shot Jacob Blake, a black man who had repeatedly resisted arrest in connection with a domestic incident, parts of Kenosha’s business district were under siege from looters and rioters. Soon, large swaths of the city would be on fire.

Gov. Tony Evers, choosing radical politics over public safety, failed to protect Kenosha from lawless mobs. We will never forget what happened on the week of Aug. 23, 2020.

To that end, Empower Wisconsin is:

— Releasing two network television ads featuring Kenosha residents who were forced to helplessly watch as rioters ruined their businesses and the city they love. Watch the two full 30-second ads here and here.

— Launching FailingWisconsin.com, dedicated to the many people Tony Evers and his radical policies have left behind. FailingWisconsin.com features the stories and videos of Wisconsinites trapped in Evers’ disastrous unemployment system, students and families locked out of their schools, and businesses the governor forced to the brink of extinction.

On Friday, Empower Wisconsin will sponsor a special broadcast of the Vicki McKenna Show, live from Kenosha from 2-5 p.m. Vicki will talk to Kenosha residents whose lives were turned upside down and the public officials who begged Evers to act. Listen to the show on NewsTalk 1130 WISN in Milwaukee and NewsTalk 1310 WIBA in Madison. You can also watch the show streaming live at Facebook.com/empowerwisconsin

Appearing in the ads is a Kenosha business owner named Scott. His family started their Kenosha furniture store 42 years ago.

“If I could talk to Tony Evers, I would ask him, ‘Where were you? Why weren’t you there for us? Why did our businesses burn to the ground?’” Scott said.

There are many others asking the same questions nearly a year later.

What happened in Kenosha can never happen again. Holding Gov. Tony Evers accountable for his failure to lead will help ensure that it doesn’t.

  • Evers is what we in the military/government used to call a useful idiot. Just like the guy in Washington. I think the real political power has already moved to get rid of Biden. They failed to get rid of Evers when he was no longer useful, but the republicans didn’t take the bait. Just think about the repercussions! If you don’t believe me, pay attention!

  • Did the scum politicians bring/fund those animals in as far away as oregano, Truth be known, provisions by scum in madison?. The cop(leaders) stood down and watched as fires were set and an old man was beaten trying to put out the fire in his store by backpack toting antifa animals on skateboards.
Of course you boobe and f bomb have long ago taken down the posted videos to cover for those animals. Remember the video of “Hero’s” having no problem harassing a woman who’s child played with a neighbor kid during the bullshit lock down?
If I recall the states non attorney proclaiming that the pedophile was shot 4 times in the back, did he see the video of that animal calling a black man with a gun in his group the N word and telling him to shot him? So if he (prison time for sodomy of 3, 8 year old boys in a western state, if reported correctly?) was attaching the kid from the front, then who shot him in the back? All on the shoulders of the heads of the demorat party of WI. They should be rebuilding the lives and business of kenosha.

  • These ads really don’t accurately reflect the magnitude of how far on the wrong side of this issue the governor actually sits. He not only stood by and did nothing, he chose to keep resources away…then made the situation much worse by emboldening protestors with his “hot take” commentary.

  • It’s much worse than you report. Evers actually exacerbated the riots. Shortly after Blake was shot, well before any investigations were conducted, Evers said, “”While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country.” And then he did nothing useful while my city burned.
