New poll: A dead heat in Wisconsin

By M.D Kittle

MADISON — A new CBS News poll finds U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Oshkosh) with a slight lead over his Democrat challenger, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes. Meanwhile, the CBS News-YouGov poll finds Democrat Gov. Tony Evers tied with Republican challenger Tim Michels with less than a month to go before November’s election.

Johnson leads Barnes 50% to 49%, and Michels and Evers are even at 50%, according to the poll.

The economy and inflation top the list of top issues in the election, followed by crime.

“On balance, voters are more likely to say Evers will make them less safe rather than more safe from crime; they say the opposite of Republican challenger Michels,” a CBS News story states.

Half of respondents believe Barnes supports defunding the police, according to the news outlet. That’s because Barnes has said he supports defunding the police. According to CNN:

In multiple posts from 2018 uncovered by CNN, Barnes liked tweets that criticized the immigration agency and called to abolish them. He told a group that supported abolishing the institution in 2019 that the “wrong ICE” was melting and attended one of their “Abolish ICE” local rallies…

Though Barnes has never outright embraced the “defund the police” slogan, he has on numerous occasions said he supports redirecting or decreasing police funding – even before the slogan gained popularity in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd by police.

In one 2020 interview reviewed by CNN, Barnes told a local Wisconsin public radio show that funding should go to social workers and a “crisis intervener or a violence interrupter,” instead of police.

I find it hard to believe that the cop hating socialist is tied with Johnson.
