New Tweets: Barnes praises tyrants

Empower Wisconsin | Oct. 21, 2022

MADISON — Lt. Gov. and Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Mandala Barnes has
taken his anti-police rhetoric to Russian-run television. So perhaps it comes as
little surprise the radical leftist has praised some of the word’s biggest tyrants.
As the Washington Free Beacon reports, Barnes has praised Iran’s supreme leader Ali
Khamenei for supporting Black Lives Matter, said he wanted to be the “Dennis
Rodman” of the Assad regime, and used his Twitter account to defend some of the
world’s most notorious dictators and repressive regimes.

According to the Free Beacon:
On Jan. 1, 2015, Barnes applauded a Twitter post by Khamenei that slammed the
U.S. government over slavery.

“The issue of US govt oppression against blacks is a 100s year-old issue,” wrote
Khamenei, adding the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.

Barnes “liked” Khamenei’s post on Twitter and responded to the Iranian leader:
“The first tweet of 2015 from @khamenei_ir is #BlackLivesMatter. Let that sink in.
May This be a most wonderful year for you and yours.”

So Barnes is simpatico with a despot who has controlled his country with an iron
fist (particularly women) and who has declared the United States Iran’s “number
one enemy” and the “Great Satan.”

Rachel Reisner, Wisconsin press secretary for the Republican National
Committee, noted some of Khamenei’s other greatest hits. The supreme leader:

• Blamed U.S. and Jews for protests of the murder of a 22-year-old women for not
properly wearing her hijab.

• Popularized and routinely declared the chant “death to America, death to Israel.”

• Has the blood of LGBT activists on his hands.

• Paid Taliban fighters $1,000 for each U.S. solider they killed in Afghanistan.

Barnes also wrote several posts opposing any U.S. effort to oust Syrian president
Bashar al-Assad in 2013, while the embattled dictator was massacring his own
people and using chemical weapons, according to the Free Beacon.

“I’d like to pull a Rodman next. I should have hopped that fence to Syria when I
had the chance,” wrote Barnes on April 9, 2013, a few weeks after Assad’s regime
carried out a deadly Sarin gas attack against its opposition.

He also opposed efforts by the United States to aid the Syrian opposition after
Assad’s use of chemical weapons.

“Seeing school administrators plead for more state aid, but seeing that our country
is able to send weapons to Syria makes me more anti war,” wrote Barnes in June
2013.

And the Free Beacon reports that after the Obama administration opened up
diplomatic relations with Cuba in 2014, Barnes wrote that he wanted to work at the
“embassy in Cuba” and asked “where would one apply for such an opportunity?”
Barnes’ latest head-scratching tweets follow on the heals of reports that the

Democrat railed against U.S. law enforcement in several interviews with Russian-
funded RT (previously known as Russia Today) in 2015 and 2016 when he was a state lawmaker.

“Mandela Barnes’ willingness to cozy up to cold blooded murderers and
repressive regimes will leave all Wisconsinites feeling uneasy,” Reisner said.
“Barnes’ praise for Assad and Khamenei disqualifies Barnes from representing
Wisconsin in the United States Senate.”
