No Chicken, What the Hoot?

Chic-fil-a boycott

HOUSTON — Rice University students are no longer able to count their chickens or — eat them for that matter.

That’s because the wise owls at The Hoot, a student-run business
serving a variety of fast-food items, has decided to take Chick-fil-A off the menu.

The Hoot laid an egg in delivering its virtue-signaling explanation.

“After taking comments from customers, peers and employees, we stand very firm in our decision. We believe that our values, as a student-run business, do not align with those of corporate (Chick-fil-A).”

Turns out the regressive group, Think Progress has designated three organizations who receive donations from the Chick-fil-A Foundation as anti-LGBTQ. Those groups include the Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Paul Anderson Youth Home.

Clearly there’s a national silencing campaign going on. A Kansas University faculty council is livid that administration gave Chick-fil-A “prime real estate” on campus, according to Fox News.

“The culture of Chick-fil-A fosters hate and discrimination on multiple levels,” the Sexuality & Gender Diversity Faculty and Staff Council wrote in a two-page letter, expressing its hatred for the popular fast-food restaurant chain.

The announcement at Rice resulted in some predictable praise from the super woke left, lauding the decision to stand up for everyone in the Rice community — except Chick-Fil-A fans — and stand against animal consumption.

But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows and smiley face emojis. Several current and former Rice students made the case for common sense and the futility of trying to boycott businesses based on their donations.

“…The Salvation Army, is supported by a number of large corporations that you and I both engage with, regularly, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Kroger, just to
name a few. The Salvation Army helps millions of homeless people every day, and Jeff Bezos (CEO of Amazon) just donated $10 million dollars to The Salvation Army 4
months ago, with $5 million of that going to help the homeless in Houston (where we are) through our local Salvation Army,” one commenter noted. “If donationa to an organization that does great charity work is the basis for a boycott, we should certainly be boycotting Amazon, too (a service which everyone here uses to great convenience).”

“You do realize that ‘corporate Chick-fil-A’ takes literally no stance on anything, right? They serve everyone the same chicken. The CEO has personal beliefs that don’t influence the business in any way. Did you do any research before making this
decision based off of your preconceptions? What absolutely childish virtue
signaling,” another commenter wrote.

“Pretty ignorant for “smart” RICE people. Get a life snowflake and stop the
hypocrisy,” stated another.

And our favorite, dripping with sarcasm in reference to the company’s policy to
close on Sundays:

“Do we really got to get rid of all of it?? Why not just boycott them on Sunday??”

There’s still hope for the future of freedom.
