Plea from a cop’s widow

Empower Wisconsin | Aug. 31, 2020

Ann Dorn knows no justice, no peace from the images and the reality that haunt her waking and sleeping hours.

Her husband, David Dorn, a retired former police chief and law enforcement veteran of decades, was murdered during the St. Louis riots following May’s officer-involved shooting of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

David was working security when he answered an alarm at a jewellery store. It was a break-in. Police say a looter fatally shot him.

“My hope is that having you re-live it with me now will help shake this country from the nightmare we are witnessing in our cities and bring about positive, peaceful change,” the widow said last week in a poignant speech for the Republican National Convention.

“Violence and destruction are not legitimate forms of protest. They do not safeguard black lives. They destroy them,” Dorn said.
