MADISON — They couldn’t convict him on bogus impeachment charges, so Democrats are hoping the Coronavirus will politically knock out President Trump.
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Oshkosh) said congressional Dems have politicized a health crisis that demands a nonpartisan response.
“For the Democrats to say the president is not paying attention to this is simply false,” said Wisconsin’s senior senator, who spoke to Empower Wisconsin’s Matt Kittle Friday on the Jay Weber Show on NewsTalk 1130 WISN.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week criticized the Trump administration for its “anemic” response to the outbreak.
“What he’s doing is late, too late,” the California Democrat said.
When Trump called Pelosi and other Dem leaders out for pushing “panic,” the speaker insisted that, “Lives are at stake.”
“This is not a time for name-calling or playing politics,” she said at a press conference.
Johnson said the narrative Democrats and their friends in the mainstream media have crafted is wrong. The senator, as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said he’s had several frank discussions with government health officials. They have told him that the administration’s swift and decisive action in ordering the travel ban to China “dramatically reduced the number of cases of the Coronavirus and limited the initial outbreak.”
