PowerUp Podcast: Sen. Ron Johnson on wasteful stimulus

Empower Wisconsin | Jan. 5, 2020

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson says Congress took a “shotgun approach” to its two COVID-19 relief packages instead of passing targeted assistance. And such wasteful spending will saddle taxpayers with trillions more in debt.

“Hundreds of billions of dollars went out to people who didn’t need it,” the Oshkosh Republican told Empower Wisconsin last week on the Jay Weber Show, on NewsTalk 1130 WISN. “Now they’re proposing more of the same.”

Late last month, congress passed a bi-partisan $900 billion relief package to offset the economic impacts of the pandemic. Included is $600 in “stimulus” checks for each eligible adult and child. In total, more than 165 million Americans can expect a piece of the pie.

While politicians scoff at the “meager” $600 payment, the stimulus could mean $2,400 for the average family of four — even to families unhurt by the pandemic.

Sen. Ron Johnson discusses the spending package, and why it’s perfectly constitutional for members of congress to object to the Electoral College results on this episode of PowerUp, Empower Wisconsin’s podcast.
