MADISON — Wauwatosa police have almost no confidence in the mayor and city council, according to a new poll released Thursday by the Wauwatosa Peace Officers Association.
Detective John Milotzky, president of the union, said 70 of the 72 officers represented answered the survey, with 99 percent saying that they had no confidence in Mayor Dennis McBride. All of the survey’s respondents said they do not feel that McBride supported them, and 99 percent believes the city council does not support them.
“We knew it was bad. We could sense that,” Milotzky told Empower Wisconsin’s M.D. Kittle Thursday on the Vicki McKenna Show. “Certainly 99 percent is a large number, but I think it speaks volumes to sort of the damage that’s occurred to our department and the community over the last few months.”
McBride and his woke allies on the council have spent the past couple of months pandering to a radical left Black Lives Matter movement that has spewed its hatred for police. City officials have caved into the People’s Revolution’s demands, with the council last month in a 13-1 vote endorsing the firing of embattled Officer Joseph Mensah. Mensah has fatally shot three suspects in five years, including 17-year-old Alvin Cole in February. Milwaukee County’s district attorney cleared Mensah of wrongdoing in the first two shootings, finding he acted in self-defense.
The latest incident remains under investigation, and Mensah has been suspended with pay.
As Empower Wisconsin reported this week, police are also investigating a protest at Mensah’s girlfriend’s home that turned violent. Police say Mensah was attacked by the demonstrators. Mensah in a Facebook post claims protesters tried to kill him. State Rep. David Bowen, a Milwaukee Democrat, claims he was at the protest-turned-riot and disputes Mensah’s claim.
Milotzky said Wauwatosa has experienced a “failure of political leadership” that has put police officers in the crosshairs — literally.
There’s a lot of that going around. Last month, more than 95 percent of the members of the Madison Professional Police Officers’ Association approved a declaration of no confidence in the leadership of Madison leftist Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway.
