MADISON — “Milwaukee Votes 2022″ is a partisan get-out-the-vote effort in “nonpartisan” clothing.
Emails and text messages obtained by Empower Wisconsin show Milwaukee Election Commission Executive Director Claire Woodall-Vogg leading a GOTV campaign backed in the shadows by long-time Dem operatives.
Heritage Foundation election law expert Hans von Spakovsky says election administrators have no business getting involved in work that is the domain of candidates and parties.
“This one is intended not to get out the vote of all voters but to get out the vote for one particular political party. They’re interested in getting out the vote for Democratic candidates,” von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, told Empower Wisconsin’s M.D. Kittle on Thursday’s edition of the Vicki McKenna Show.
“This is a dense, urban environment. It’s a Democratic stronghold, and that’s clearly what they want to do. It brings out ethics issues, tax issues,” he said.
Hans von Spakovsky is our guest on today’s edition of PowerUp, Empower Wisconsin’s podcast.
