Amy Coney Barrett stands in the national spotlight after being nominated by President Donald Trump to fill the Supreme Court seat of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals judge surely is about to go through the battle of her life, with liberals expected to attack her at every turn and do all they can to stop the Republican-controlled Senate from confirming her. Coney Barrett replacing the liberal Ginsburg would give conservatives a decided 6-3 majority on the court.
Milwaukee attorney Rob Driscoll knows Barrett is more than open to the challenges ahead. He knows because he knows her.
The judge was Driscoll’s law professor at Notre Dame Law School.
Driscoll, former president of the Milwaukee Lawyers’ Chapter of the Federalist Society, started law school in 2004, when Barrett was a fairly new professor. Barrett, who had previously clerked for the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, was poised, dedicated and exceptionally prepared, Driscoll said.
“I think it was clear then how accomplished she was already, and would become,” he told Empower Wisconsin in an interview Friday on the Vicki McKenna Show. “You were never going to catch her by surprise.”
