MADISON — Assembly Republican leadership isn’t interested in fighting what could be a bruising political battle over Gov. Tony Evers’ statewide mask mandate, according to Rep. Mary Felzkowski.
Because law enforcement officers have said they will not enforce the governor ’s order, GOP leaders in the Assembly don’t feel like it’s a fight worth having. They have said they’ll go back into session if Evers goes back on his word and moves to shut down in-class school.
Felzkowski feels differently.
“I feel we could go in now with a joint resolution and make the statement to repeal the mask mandate because it’s unconstitutional,” she told Empower Wisconsin’s M.D. Kittle Friday on the Jay Weber Show. “We all swore that we would uphold the constitution. In addition to that, in that same resolution we state that schools must open — Schools must open in a manner that local school districts feel are safe.”
