MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers finds himself in a politically difficult position, forced to choose between giving up the extraordinary power he has routinely abused or walking away from a compromise COVID relief package he has urged the Legislature to pass.
Such is the dilemma for the Democrat after Senate Republicans fixed a glitch in their joint resolution that aims to stop Evers’ liberal use of his emergency health declarations — and the statewide mask mandate rising from them.
“This is a nice, clean way to limit the powers of the governor,” Senate President Chris Kapenga (R-Delafield) told Empower Wisconsin’s Matt Kittle last week on the Jay Weber Show, on NewsTalk 1130 WISN in Milwaukee.
Sen. Kapenga is our guest on today’s edition of PowerUp, Empower Wisconsin’s podcast.
