PowerUp Podcast: Walker on Biden and the Dem’s Zoom convention

Empower Wisconsin | Aug. 17, 2020

MADISON — Joe Biden and his presidential running mate may be skipping this week’s Democratic Party Convention — or Zoom meeting — in Milwaukee, but President Donald Trump and top Republicans will be in the Badger State pushing their election message.

Trump is slated to be in Oshkosh Monday afternoon, taking much of the spotlight off the Dems’ first day of their nearly all-virtual convention.

Two days later, Vice President Mike Pence will be in Darien, as the Democratic presidential candidate remains in his Delaware bunker.

Former Gov. Scott Walker will be talking Wisconsin all week, and what’s at stake in the November election. He said top Republicans plan to be very present in this critical battleground state. They’ll show that you can be safe without being locked away in a basement somewhere, Walker said.

“We’re not taking anything for granted,” the former two-term governor told Empower Wisconsin on Friday’s Vicki McKenna Show.

A CBS News and YouGov poll released last week found Biden’s lead over Trump in Wisconsin shrinking — 48 percent to 42 percent among likely voters. Last week’s Marquette University Law School Poll, meanwhile, showed Biden leading by just 4 percentage points, 50 percent to 46 percent.

Walker said what’s left of the Dems’ convention will include “uninteresting speakers” and Joe Biden.

“And Joe Biden is Joe Biden,” he said.

Indeed.

Former Gov. Scott Walker is our guest today on this edition of PowerUp, Empower Wisconsin’s podcast.
