MADISON — The circle of destruction from Democrat polices is hitting farmers particularly hard. From soaring diesel prices and historic fertilizer costs to supply shortages, life has gotten a lot tougher down on the farm.
And that means it’s going to get even more expensive for anyone who appreciates eating.
State Rep. Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc) is a lawmaker/farmer who is at ground zero of the inflationary struggle. He recently filled up his 550-gallon fuel barrel, paying $4.83 a gallon for diesel. That’s up nearly $2.75 a gallon from the same time last year.
“This is not sustainable. It’s tragic for our farmers and consumers,” Kurtz told Empower Wisconsin’s M.D. Kittle Friday on the Vicki McKenna Show. “Think about all those people on fixed incomes. They are suffering.”
Kurtz said the suffering has much to do with the extreme environmental policies of the Biden and Evers administrations.
Kurtz joined dozens of Republican state lawmakers last week in asking the Environmental Protection Agency to lift the seasonal mandate on reformulated gasoline as drivers in the Milwaukee area were paying as much as $5.20 per gallon for unleaded regular gas. The reformulated requirement for southeast Wisconsin costs motorists filling up there about 40 cents a gallon more than elsewhere in the state.
