MADISON — While educrats complain the Republican-led Joint Finance Committee isn’t giving K-12 schools enough money, some fiscal conservatives say JFC is being overly generous.

State Sen. Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg), a member of the budget-writing committee, said he can certainly understand that criticism, particularly in light of the fact that Wisconsin’s K-12 public education system is receiving $2.6 billion in federal pandemic aid.

The current two-year budget passed in 2019 includes record ed spending — nearly $700 million in new money. JFC’s proposal, including $128 million in state funding, is four times as much when factoring in the federal cash.

“For some people, no matter how much you spend on education, it’s never enough,” Stroebel told Empower Wisconsin’s M.D. Kittle on the Friday Afternoon Show, on NewsTalk 1130 WISN in Milwaukee.
