MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers has spent a lot of his three-plus years in office re-writing the history of his time in office.
Last week, the Democrat — with a straight face — took credit for a $3 billion tax cut and a projected $3.8 billion state budget surplus.
It was a laughable lie, as a new ad from WMC Issues Mobilization Council points out. Tony the tax slayer is a myth most perpetuated by a governor who has proposed $2 billion-plus in tax hikes in two budgets.
“The Truth? In one of his very first acts as governor, Tony Evers vetoed a middle-class tax cut,” the broadcast television ad notes.
Scott Manley, executive vice president of Government Relations for Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, says WMC’s ad aims to “help voters understand the real Tony Evers.”
“I don’t think I’ve seen a politician in my career who has proposed so many tax increases on families, on businesses, properties, on everything you buy, gasoline, you name it,” Manley told Empower Wisconsin’s M.D. Kittle Thursday on the Jay Weber Show. “If there’s a way to tax it, Tony Evers has tried to do it.”
Manley also discussed the impact Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will have on Wisconsin’s economy.
Scott Manley is our guest on today’s edition of PowerUp, Empower Wisconsin’s podcast.
