Republicans rip Biden’s spin-dizzying State of the Union

Empower Wisconsin | March 1,  2022

MADISON — President Joe Biden’s first State of the Union Address was a tour de force in spin and omission. As Americans deal with inflation not seen in 40 years, violent crime not matched in 30 years, and the most devastating conflict on the European continent since World War II, Biden declared the state of the union is strong.

As Fox News reports, the president left out one very painful, inconvenient truth in particular.

President Biden ignored the chaotic, deadly Afghanistan withdrawal at his first State of the Union address, leading Republicans to sharply criticize the president.

Biden skipped over potentially the biggest foreign policy mar on his first year in office that saw 13 American servicemembers die in a suicide bombing outside the Kabul airport.

The president only touched on Afghanistan briefly in his remarks, not mentioning the deadly withdrawal at all in his remarks and instead focusing on soldiers being exposed to toxic chemicals, possibly including, he suggested, his deceased son Beau Biden.

Wisconsin’s Republican congressional delegation had plenty tp say about Biden’s re-write of his first year-plus in office. Here are some of the responses:

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Oshkosh)

“In spite of President Biden’s inaugural speech promise that his number one goal was to unify and heal our nation, today, America is even further divided due to his mismanagement of the economy, our southern border, foreign policy, and COVID-19.

”His failure to direct federal health agencies to research and recommend early treatment has cost hundreds of thousands of lives…

“The massive deficit spending he promoted and signed into law sparked 7.5% inflation, a level we haven’t experienced in forty years. In spite of his promise not to raise taxes on anyone making under $400,000, everyone should realize that inflation IS the Democrat’s tax on the middle class. It hurts the very people Democrats purport to represent – seniors on a fixed income and individuals at the lower end of the income spectrum. President Biden’s solution? Even more deficit spending on a laundry list of liberal programs.

“In addition, President Biden dismantled all of the previous administration’s programs and agreements that had stopped the flow of Unaccompanied Children and Families exploiting our asylum laws. He stopped building the wall, costing Americans more to NOT build the wall than it would have cost to simply complete it. The result is over 1.2 million immigrants who entered illegally in 2021 and have been dispersed throughout America.  And now he claims he wants to secure the border? Does he think the American people aren’t paying attention?

“All of these policy failures have weakened America and, combined with the embarrassing and dangerous surrender in Afghanistan, have emboldened our enemies by tempting them to take advantage of the current situation….

“The fact that President Biden seems oblivious to the harm his administration and policies have caused to Americans ensures that he will not change course and his failures will continue. Unfortunately, the State of the Union is not good, and it will not improve with President Biden and Democrats in total control of the federal government.”

U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil (R-1st CD)

“President Biden’s speech tonight failed to offer real solutions to the problems Americans are facing. Runaway government spending is driving inflation. An open border is bringing deadly drugs like illicit fentanyl to our communities. Misguided energy policies have increased gas prices and made us more dependent on foreign oil. We need to change course and get our lives back to normal.”

U.S Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-8th CD)

“President Biden said the state of the union is strong. The reality to most Americans is very different. In the President’s first year, inflation has hit a 40-year high, more illegal immigrants have crossed the southern border than ever before, violent crime surged across the country, and you can literally count the number of foreign policy disasters by the number of embassies the U.S. evacuated. Unfortunately, tonight the President doubled down on the same radical policies that created these crises and left Americans worse off. This is the literal definition of insanity.

“If the President is going to right the ship, he needs a course correction. The obvious way to start is by ending his administration’s war on American energy, cutting off America’s imports of Russian oil, and reinstating the Keystone Pipeline and the thousands of good-paying Wisconsin jobs that come with it.”

U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-5th CD)

“Tonight, President Biden showed the American people just how out of touch he is with the current state of our union. He failed to take responsibility for many of the crises facing our country under his leadership, including high gas prices, unenforced borders, empty grocery shelves, and global instability…

“Despite Republicans’ repeated calls to bolster U.S. energy independence, President Biden halted construction of the Keystone Pipeline and suffocated domestic oil and gas leasing. This has left the U.S. unable to meet the energy needs of our country or European allies placing us all in a precarious position in trying to cripple Putin’s power. If the President is serious about protecting democracy abroad, he must immediately restart American energy production to cut off Putin’s lifeline.

“Talk is cheap, and it’s clear President Biden owes the American people meaningful action to put our country back on track.”

What a bunch of mularkey. Border security, well it was secure before he became president. Cure cancer, well we’ve been working on that for decades. Bring manufacturing back to the USA, well that is what the best president, Trump, did. Lowering cost of drugs, well president Trump started that. On and on lies and more lies.
