Should Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm be removed from office?

By M.D. Kittle

MADISON — The call to remove or impeach Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm is growing louder, led by Republican gubernatorial candidate Rebecca Kleefisch and others.

Chisholm’s office recommended accused mass murderer Darrell Brooks Jr.  leave jail on just $1,000 bail — 10 days before the career violent criminal plowed through Waukesha’s Christmas Day parade, killing six and injuring dozens more.

Chisholm, a partisan Democrat whose liberal policies have played a significant role in releasing untold numbers of violent and repeat offenders, had to acknowledge that bail was “inappropriately low.”

“The bail recommendation in this case is not consistent with the approach of the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office toward matters involving violent crime, nor was it consistent with the risk assessment of the defendant prior to setting of bail,” Chisholm wrote in a statement, adding that his office is conducting an internal review.

Kleefisch, appearing on NewsMax, said if she were governor she would fire Chisholm.

“The lawlessness and this catch-and-release treatment for violent criminals with rap sheets a mile long has to stop… we have families who are now planning funerals instead of Thanksgiving Dinner,” the former lieutenant governor said.

Gov. Tony Evers isn’t going to do that. His office did not return a request for comment, but his handlers told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that a citizen would first have to bring a complaint. The governor could then remove Chisholm from his post, but only for cause — something like “neglect of duty” or “official misconduct” or “malfeasance in office.”

Chisholm’s failure to check his prosecutor’s ridiculously low bail request could fit all of the above. Brooks Jr. had recently been arrested on charges of punching a woman — the mother of his child — and then hitting her with the same SUV he allegedly used in his deadly drive through the Christmas parade.

But this isn’t the first rodeo for the liberal DA, who in 2007 made a bone-chilling prediction about his ideas on reforming the cash-bail system.

“Is there going to be an individual I divert, or I put into [a] treatment program, who’s going to go out and kill somebody?” he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “You bet. Guaranteed. It’s guaranteed to happen. It does not invalidate the overall approach.”

Evers, a far left Democrat, can talk about the process of removal all he wants, but he wouldn’t fire Chisholm even if a complaint is placed on his desk. He agrees with the prosecutor’s ideas on low bail. He ran for governor on a goal to cut the state’s inmate population in half.

Empower Wisconsin Foundation President Eric O’Keefe, one of Chisholm’s victims in a politically motivated and unconstitutional investigation, told Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” last week that the Republican-controlled Legislature should impeach the “corrupt” prosecutor.

“(Chisholm) is more concerned with protecting government from the people than protecting people from criminals,” O’Keefe told host Laura Ingraham. “They committed crimes in pursuit of innocent people and they allowed criminals to stay on the street.”

It appears Republican lawmakers are leery about taking on an impeachment battle that would require a super-majority in the Senate to win.

  • Chisholm is ELECTED, right? Until the willingly gaslit apostate of sheeple acquires and exercises a modicum of critical thinking skills, society will be ever plagued with the malevolent incompetence of Chisholm, Evers, Kaul, Barnes, and the rest of the pitiable, feckless county and city politburos in place for the last fifty years.

“Should Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm be removed from office?”; Seriously? IMMEDIATELY, if not sooner.

  • IF he had any decency and integrity he would have resigned already. I hope there are lawyers representing the families who will sue him for dereliction of duty. So what about it Josh Kaul?

  • As the head of the DA’s office in Milwaukee County, the “boss” is should have been made aware of ALL bail requests and should have to sign off.

His lax oversite leads to sloppy work habits and death. Chisholm must go.

Because what happened in Waukesha was not a mistake but an eventual reality in Chisholm’s eyes demonstrates a complete disregard for his oath of office which, I assume, includes protecting the public from law breakers.

  • He should be relieved of his position and go work in the county jail to be near the people to whom he is devoted. It is disgraceful that this man sacrificed the safety of the people who pay his salary to promote a progressive agenda that is doing nothing but destroying some beautiful cities.
He shamelessly blames the assistant DA for the oversight that kept that man from remaining in jail, yet that ADA has recommended minuscule bail on 40 domestic abuse cases and no less than 10 of those accused committed felonies after being released for next to nothing. That’s not oversight, that is a custom & practice, a policy that emanates from the top. His progressive policies earn him plenty of donations and a solid reputation among the wretched who will help him advance to his next govt or govt fed position. All at the expense of those wonderful women, that kindly man and that beautiful child, not to mention the people who suffer in the shadows on a daily basis. Who do you think are the primary victims of a policy that won’t treat criminals as criminals because they are underprivileged? The underprivileged suffer because when released these accused go back to their neighborhoods & harm the innocent, the feeble, the elderly & the young.
Human nature has been the same since we crawled up from the swamps; there is always a small but impactful percentage of people who are just bad. Who need to be separated from decent society for the protection of the rest of us who deserve better from a man who feeds at the public trough as he breaches the sacred public trust.
Mr. Chisholm as you try to remake society in an equitable framework, bring the violent criminals to your neighborhood, let them ravage your house. You, not we, benefit from this idiocy. And say a prayer for those lives you “guaranteed” would be sacrificed to your topsy-turvy priorities.

  • Yes he should be removed and better yet jailed on charges of conspiracy to commit murder. So many leftists, and fbi officials should also be jailed on conspiracy charges to avert the 2016 election.

  • He knew the bail was excessively low. He knew innocent people would die. There is blood on his hands. He is a morally bankrupt buffoon paid for by Soros imho.

  • He should’ve been removed to a jail cell eight years ago, if only we had a Republican Party that believed their own campaign rhetoric over their quest to perpetuate their grift.
