‘Somber’ Pelosi scolds impeaching Dems after smirk

Empower Wisconsin | Dec. 20, 2019

It must be hard to smile when you’re dying inside.

Fortunately for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi a smirk would do.

The master of ceremonies for House Democrats’ impeachment show donned a black dress for the “somber” and “grave” proceedings. Or as one news outlet put it, “Pelosi wore her best funeral outfit for the impeachment vote.”

Madam Speaker wore black, CNN’s Dana Bash proclaimed, to “signal it is a somber day.”

It was all part of the phony show, as evidenced by the smirk that not-so-faintly lifted Pelosi’s face-lifted face as she announced the vote that impeached President Donald Trump on the first article.

She then had to double back on her gravitas act, sternly scolding fellow Democrats as they started to cheer the vote. They wanted a New Orleans-style Jazz funeral for Trump’s presidency in the historic chamber; Nancy wanted desperately to maintain the appearance of the dark drama.
