MADISON — State Rep. David Bowen (D-Milwaukee) couldn’t have chosen his words more carelessly this week in introducing a racist Black Lives Matter activist who has publicly endorsed the violence and the riots this long summer in Wisconsin in the name of “social justice.”
“The amazing Brandi Grayson from Urban Triage, who I’m sure is going to set this whole thing ablaze again,” Bowen said in leading a Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus press conference on Tuesday, the day the Republican-led Legislature opened a special session on public reform and public safety.
Bowen, who has had his own troubles with at least one protest that turned violent, made his tone deaf comments a week after militant radicals looted, smashed and burned down dozens of businesses and public properties in Kenosha. The riots, which ultimately turned deadly, followed the officer-involved shooting and wounding of a black man who police say repeatedly resisted arrest.
It was the kind of comment that an accusatory mainstream media would have jumped all over — had it not come from a Black Lives Matter leader.
The “amazing Brandi Grayson” is the executive director of Madison-based Urban Triage, a radical left group — supported by taxpayer dollars — that advocates for “defunding the police” and against what Grayson loosely labels as “white supremacy capitalism.”
Grayson, like her fellow racialists, paints with a broad brush. White apparently is the wrong color on her palette.
“What we’re saying today, my white people, my white elected officials, is that you can no longer hide and say you’re not racists. You can no longer hide and say you don’t support the killings that have taken place in Kenosha,” she shouted at the press conference. She was referring to the fatal shootings of two demonstrators involved in the riots by a 17-year-old Illinois resident who has been charged with homicide. “We know through your silence that you support it.”
And Grayson threatened, if white people, particularly white lawmakers, refuse to accept that they are white supremacists and fail to bow to the wisdom of radical groups like Urban Triage, they can expect more disorder, more looting, more rioting, more violence.
“You will get what you got,” she warned.
To her white liberal friends, Grayson admonished that they cannot say they stand for black lives while they “critique” rioters and “demand prosecution for folks who tear up statues out of the rage, out of the rage of your failure to act, out of the rage of your failure to do anything, out of your failure to acknowledge white supremacy patriarchal capitalism is a thing.”
Grayson isn’t just a wacky voice in the wilderness fringe of the left. She and her hate-filled message are endorsed by Wisconsin’s liberal leadership.
