President Joe Biden prepares to deliver his first State of the Union address tonight with an increasing number of Americans worried about the state of his cognition.
A new poll by ABC News/The Washington Post found a majority of Americans (54 percent) don’t believe Biden has the mental sharpness to effectively serve as president.
Just 40 percent think Biden has the mental faculties to do the job.
The polling numbers, like most polls, look bad for the Democrat after a year-plus in office.
The honeymoon is very over.
Only 43 percent of Americans believe Biden can be trusted in a crisis — he’s facing a doozy right now with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. More than half (52 percent) say Biden can’t handle a crisis. And just 36 percent see him as a strong leader; 59 percent say he is not.
Overall, an abysmal 37 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s job performance, with 55 percent disapproving, according to the Post/ABC poll. Worst news for Biden, he’s polling 30 percent approval from Independents. In his own party, nearly 20 percent of Democrats disapprove of the president’s performance.
“Economic discontent is slamming Joe Biden and his party’s midterm election prospects, with six in 10 Americans experiencing inflation hardships, three-quarters saying the economy’s in bad shape and a nearly 20-point lead for the Republican Party in trust to handle it.,” the poll states.
