Empower Wisconsin | Dec. 30, 2021
Goodbye 2021. And good riddance.
In many ways, the year that was turned out to be a disastrous sequel to 2020, one of the lousiest years on record.
There are a lot of awful people who worked hard to bring us the freak show of 2021. The list is long and sad. While by no means exhaustive, Empower Wisconsin today unveils The Worst People of 2021.
Jill Underly, Teachers Union Stooge
Bought and paid for by public teachers unions, Jill Underly has given the left its money’s worth since being elected superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction in April. DPI under Underly’s direction, has whitewashed failure in the state’s public education system, manipulating how school districts are graded to save them from the failing grades they deserve. And instead of working with the Legislature to reward districts that followed the science and returned to in-person learning, Underly supported the Biden administration’s efforts to take federal funding away from mostly rural schools.
Lodi School Board, Silencing Citizens
Educrats and bad school boards make the list of Worst People multiple times this year. The Lodi School Board and its superintendent are without a doubt among the more egregious nominees. School officials sicced police on parents at a school board meeting in November. Why? Because fed up parents hired a civil rights attorney to warn the board that the district’s mask mandates were out of line. The board then moved swiftly to limit public comment.
Attorney General Merrick Garland, Intimidating Parents
As President Joe Biden’s lapdog, Merrick Garland has demonstrated why Republican senators were right to keep him off the Supreme Court. The attorney general has politically weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice, using its resources to investigate outspoken parents critical of their local schools’ abusive policies. Garland has refused to call off the dogs.
John Chisholm, prophet of doom
Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm knew his form of liberal justice would hurt innocent people. He predicted it when he took office in 2007. How horrifying his words now seem after Chisholm’s office helped set free a career violent criminal on $1,000 bail just days before he is suspected of killing six and injuring scores more in the Waukesha Christmas Parade Massacre. Now, Milwaukee County residents are asking Gov. Tony Evers to remove from office a district attorney whose soft-on-crime policies have cost society dearly.
Kenosha County Assistant DA Thomas Binger, perverting justice
Binger was point man for a nationally televised public service announcement on prosecutorial abuse and an attorney’s handbook on how to lose a case. Binger’s mad aggressiveness in prosecuting Kyle Rittenhouse after the teen shot and killed two Kenosha rioters and injured another exposed how dangerous to the law and liberty bad prosecutors are. The Kenosha County District Attorney’s office couldn’t even uphold its own mission statement: “It is important to keep in mind that the District Attorney is the gatekeeper to the criminal justice system. As such, his job is not merely to obtain convictions but to seek justice.
Meagan Wolfe and the Election lawbreakers
Perhaps it’s asking too much of the people sworn to uphold election law to not break election law. But that’s exactly what the Wisconsin Elections Commission, led by its excuse-making administrator Meagan Wolfe, has done time and time again. A state audit uncovered how routinely the election regulator either massaged election law or ignored it entirely during the 2020 presidential election. The commission and local clerks in Wisconsin’s largest and most Democrat-friendly cities gave the keys to the election to liberal activists richly funded by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. And they locked special voting deputies out of nursing homes, allowing severely cognitively impaired residents to be manipulated into illegally voting, according to a law enforcement investigation Is it any wonder so many Wisconsin voters have lost faith in free, fair and transparent elections.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, Mad Scientist
In the eyes of the fear porn pushers, Anthony Fauci can do no wrong. In the eyes of Anthony Fauci, Anthony Fauci can do no wrong. That kind of unscientific arrogance has been central to the pandemic reign of Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and current chief medical advisor to the president. Fauci has routinely been wrong in leading the fight against the pandemic, and his mistakes have been costly. Yet, the sycophantic press insists questioning Fauci’s science is an attack on science itself. So does Fauci. “Attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science,” he said in September.
UW-Madison has long been a leftist cesspool. But at least it used to pretend to accept opposing viewpoints. Those days are gone. Like so many publicly funded colleges and universities, UW-Madison is nothing more than a re-education camp for Woke training. The university was caught mandating critical race theory disguised as violence prevention training. Grad students were compelled to take and pass the CRT course or they couldn’t enroll in the spring semester. “I am appalled by the blatant attempt by UW-Madison to force students to agree with one set of beliefs to attend the University as a graduate student,” wrote Assembly Speaker Robin Vos wrote in a letter to UW’s chancellor.
The children of the Madison School Board
It was another “I told you so moment” in the annals of liberal Madison. Police had to be called to East High School in November to break up a brawl. It was the latest incident of disorder and violence created after the Madison Metropolitan School Board canceled student resource officers at the district’s high schools. Madison police warned they would be back when the district removed them from the schools, and it wouldn’t be in a preventative capacity. As of early November, officers had been called to the high school 63 times since the beginning of the school year. And the violence is escalating. Kids should expect to be safe in school, but that expectation has disappeared in Madison. That’s because there are no grown-ups in charge. There are only leftist tools who continue to be elected by leftist tools.
Mandela Barnes, political freeloader
Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes sees himself as a champion of the poor and downtrodden. His record shows he’s more of a political deadbeat who availed himself of taxpayer-funded health care while his only job was running to be Democrat Gov. Tony Evers’ second-in-command. As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported, Barnes paid no income tax in 2018 and was on BadgerCare Plus — Wisconsin’s Medicaid program — while his only job apparently was campaigning. Barnes, among a crowded field of Democrats running for U.S. Senate in 2022, reportedly lived off personal savings, which included cash from a family estate sale. Barnes sunk the cash he had into two condos — one in Milwaukee for $107,000 in 2017 and the other in Madison for $122,000 about a month after he began his tenure as lieutenant governor.
Josh Kaul, Attorney General for the left
Critics of Josh Kaul the private practice attorney predicted he would be nothing more than a tool of the left if elected Wisconsin attorney general. The critics were right. Kaul has repeatedly shown that he is not interested in the rule of law unless it fits the liberal narrative. He refused to represent the interests of Wisconsin taxpayers in a lawsuit against the federal government. He played partisan political games with the law involving Wisconsin’s wolf hunt. He defended a convicted rapist in an employment case, but has refused to call out fellow Democrat, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, for liberal policies that cheaply freed a career violent criminal who is suspected in the Waukesha Christmas Parade massacre.
Gov. Tony Evers, failing Wisconsin
It was a tough year for Gov. Tony Evers. The Wisconsin Supreme Court — once again — checked the governor’s pandemic power grab, this time ending his illegal statewide mask mandate. He was boxed in by the Republican-led Legislature, which forced the Democrat’s hand in signing a budget with significant tax cuts that bore little resemblance to his tax-and-spending plan. And his People’s Maps Commission was exposed as the partisan dog-and-pony show it was (Democrats in the Legislature wouldn’t even support it.). But Evers was nothing if not persistent. He repeatedly found ways to fail — Wisconsin and his political prospects.
President Joe Biden
The left’s political savior from mean tweets turned out to be an absolute disaster. From soaring inflation not seen in 40 years to constitution-shredding vaccine mandates to his troop withdrawal debacle in Afghanistan, there’s been lots of buyer’s remorse attached to Joe Biden. And a lot of misery to go around. Supply Chain Crisis. Human Infrastructure. These are phrases born out of the Biden Era. And more out-of-control spending, crippling debt and government dependency. Much more. The damage Biden administration policies have caused are only just beginning to be felt. The president’s woeful approval ratings reflect how bad it is for the majority of Americans.
