As the Chinese Communist Party brutally stifles dissent across China, the American who should always stand up for the core U.S. principle of freedom of speech has been eerily silent.
President Joe Biden’s mouthpiece Karine Jean-Pierre last week said the White House was closely watching the rare protests against the Chinese government’s tyrannical “zero-COVID” policy. But the administration is exercising its right to remain silent on the human rights violations going on before its eyes.
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, defended Biden, telling CNN that members of Congress have more freedom in speaking out against the Chinese Communist Party’s treatment of protesters than the Biden administration. Warner said “we don’t want to feed the propaganda machinery.”
“If they’re [Chinese authorities] able to portray this as kind of an anti-Chinese or Western plot, that undermines the very protesters that were trying to stand with,” he said.
What?
The leader of a nation known for its Bill of Rights saying nothing about abuses of those basic rights undermines the foundation of American democracy.
It’s interesting that the Biden administration has no problem sticking its nose — and taxpayer money — into its pet woke causes around the world.
As Judicial Watch reports, the State Department is spending $50,000
to counter stigma and prejudice against the transgender community in India — the world’s largest democracy. The tax dollars will pay for workshops that will help employees and leadership at Indian companies create awareness about transgender persons and their rights. This includes setting up “Pride/Rainbow groups” within the corporations and inspiring them to cultivate a more inclusive work environment as well as develop active transgender employee recruitment plans.
“These workshops will aim to help corporations and businesses to better understand the needs of the TG community and encourage them to adopt policies and carry out activities that foster a work environment that is safe, nurturing, accepting, and inclusive for members of the TG community,” according to the U.S. government grant announcement.
All of this despite the fact that years ago India passed a sweeping law giving transgender people rights—and prohibiting discrimination in education, employment, and healthcare.
If Chinese protesters want any help from this president they’ll have to claim to be gender fluid first.
What a tool.
Joe Biden — the selective rights president — is Empower Wisconsin’s Tool of the Week.
