Tool of the Week, Nina Jankowicz, Minister of ‘truth’

Empower Wisconsin  | May 9, 2022

George Orwell wasn’t writing dystopian science fiction when he penned 1984. He was telling the future.

What could be more Big Brother than the Biden administration’s “Disinformation Governance Board”? And who better to lead this Ministry of Truth than Nina Jankowicz, a leftist who has shown herself to be the kind of doctor of spin that serves President Joe Biden.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas set off alarm bells among anyone who values the First Amendment and fears government “truth” squads when he admitted the existence of the Disinformation Governance Board. Its mission, according to Team Biden, is to combat falsehoods and distortions on the internet.

“The Biden Administration has not proven itself to be a credible arbiter of ‘disinformation.’ Instead, it has taken steps to silence information that is unflattering to this Administration under the guise of ‘disinformation.’ For example, unnamed intelligence officials, the media, and social media platforms engaged in a coordinated effort to censor stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop and his questionable financial dealings under the false label of ‘disinformation,’” U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Oshkosh), a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, wrote in a letter packed with questions to Mayorkas.

Chief among the senator’s concerns, how in the hell can Nina Jankowicz lead anything remotely designed to attack disinformation?

She has repeatedly falsely tweeted that the Hunter Biden laptop story wan’t legitimate, although the new “disinformation czar” joined a lot of bad and lazy journalists on that front.

“Back on the ‘laptop from hell,’ apparently—Biden notes 50 former natsec officials and 5 former CIA heads that believe the laptop is a Russian influence op. Trump says ‘Russia, Russia, Russia,’” Jankowicz tweeted in October 2020.

In another tweet she wrote, “IC has a high degree of confidence that the Kremlin used proxies to push influence narratives, including misleading or unsubstantiated claims about President Biden, to US media, officials, and influencers, some close to President Trump. A clear nod to the alleged Hunter laptop.”  And she referred to the origins of how the media came into possession of the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop as a “fairy tale about a laptop repair shop.”

Both The New York Times and The Washington Post have since authenticated many of the emails, first obtained by the New York Post, amid a grand jury probe into potential tax fraud, money laundering and violations of lobbying laws by the first son.

Jankowicz has attempted to defend her faulty facts, in part by insisting she was just quoting from sources. Those sources, however, supported a Biden-friendly narrative that proved untrue. And her reliance on them should disqualify her as an authority of fact.

When the liars are in charge of determining truth, the truth becomes a lie. Or, as Orwell so eloquently put it, “Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense.”

Every American — left, right or anywhere in between — should be deeply concerned about the Disinformation Governance Board, and the tool of Big Brother tapped to run it.

That tool is Nina Jankowicz, Empower Wisconsin’s Tool of the Week.
