MADISON — If you think the left’s Cancel Culture verged on an intellectual purge before November’s election, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
In the troubled days that followed the long night of Nov. 3, the brain trust of the socialist-progressive movement has attempted to label conservatives of all kinds as dangers to democracy that must be silenced.
Case in point, the leftist schmuck who recently sent a letter to WIZM in La Crosse demanding the local radio station change the name of long time Republican activist Bill Feehan’s podcast.
William Garcia, newly named chairman of the La Crosse County Democratic Party, insists WIZM management shouldn’t allow Feehan to name his podcast “Fact Check.” Nor should the station allow Feehan, chairman of the La Crosse County GOP, to refer to himself as a “Fact Checker.”
Why? Because Feehan disagreed with the results of November’s presidential election, an attempt to “suppress the votes of Wisconsin citizens,” according to Garcia. Feehan’s Facebook page, Garcia asserts, “is riddled with lies, inaccuracies and misdirection intended to obscure the legacy of lies and mismanagement of the Trump administration.”
Garcia isn’t “objecting to the existence of the program.” The podcast can live, for now, anyway. He just wants to cancel the name and any advertising associated with it. Garcia insists he would hold the same opinion if a leftie was advertising himself as an arbiter of facts. We don’t know that.
We do know that Garcia is not alone.
The world’s answer to no question ever asked, leftist Scot Ross, has been on a rager trying to shut down conservative talk show hosts on the popular NewsTalk 1130 WISN in Milwaukee.
“[email protected], which employs white nationalist genital wart Dan O’Donnell and Vicki McKKKenna…should have its radio monopoly boycotted into bankruptcy,” tweeted Ross, who remarkably, serves on the state’s Ethics Commission. The troll has exhausted many of his precious few brain cells in trying to pressure advertisers to bail on the station and its hosts.
Things are getting worse daily. Drunk with power, liberals are pushing all kinds of censorship ideas — from blacklisting former Trump officials to creating a government-led bureau to determine the “facts” and, by proxy, who gets to speak and who doesn’t.
The useful idiots are working overtime for the Cancel Culture campaign. Brimming with new confidence and power, they are recharged to shut down the opposition.
They are tools of a grander far left effort. They are Empower Wisconsin’s Tool of the Week.
Debates, not demands, are more effective if you want someone to believe what you believe.
