MADISON — Chuck and Nancy and their liberal pals think they finally got their man.
But the call from U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (R-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to impeach and remove President Donald Trump from office isn’t the salve America needs to heal its political wounds. They are throwing gasoline on the bonfire in the waning days of the Trump presidency.
And many Americans, even those who believe Trump acted irresponsibly, see through the politics. They know what the increasingly radical left Democratic Party is trying to do.
For four long years and then some these power-before-country politicians have done everything in their power — and well beyond — to knock out Trump. They have failed at every turn.
Their hatred and the crimes they have endorsed in their attempts to get rid of him are exceeded only by the disdain they hold for the tens of millions of Americans who have supported the president.
Now, Pelosi, egged on by a left-leaning “mainstream media,” is preparing to impeach the president for a second time if he refuses to resign from office. Just nine days before Trump departs and Joe Biden begins his term.
While there’s plenty of anger to go around, the impeachers run the very real risk of dangerously expanding the great political rift in America. They do so, of course, at the same time they urge “unity.” It’s a phony plea. America knows better.
U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) warned the “Resistance” it was playing with fire.
“Joe Biden must condemn this reckless move. I oppose Pelosi’s efforts to impeach President Trump. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have already tried and failed to remove President Trump through impeachment. Enough already!” Steil exhorted in a statement.
“From the riots in Kenosha, Portland, Chicago, Minneapolis and dozens of other cities to what happened in D.C. this week, what we need right now is leaders to tone down their actions, not enflame the situation,” he added.
But it would seem the impeachers are addicted to playing with fire. And most likely, they’ll get burned again. They’re tools of their own lust for political power.
They collectively are Empower Wisconsin’s Tool of the Week.
