President Trump stood up for School Choice again this week in his State of the Union address.
The president called on congress to pass his Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act. The bill would create a $5 billion annual tax credit for donations to state-based, locally controlled scholarships, giving “1 million children the freedom to attend a school of their choice,” according to the White House.
“No parent should be forced to send their child to a failing government school,” Trump said.
The president surprised a Philadelphia fourth-grader who has been stuck on a school choice waiting list with an Opportunity Scholarship. Janiyah Davis and her mother, Stephanie, were among the president’s invited guests at the annual address.
