Rioters torched a squad car and smashed storefronts in downtown Atlanta Saturday.
Fox5 Atlanta reported Monday that four of six suspects were being held without bond. All six have been charged with four felonies and four misdemeanors including rioting, pedestrian in a roadway, willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and unlawful assembly.
The riots broke out following what was described as a peaceful demonstration against police after last week’s officer-involved shooting death of a 26-year-old activist.
“What I saw wasn’t peaceful,” a witness, David Abrohams, told FOX 5, “Yeah, no, I mean blowing up cop cars and throwing fireworks at police officers is not peaceful.”
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp noted most of the suspects arrested were from out of the state.
“Law enforcement demonstrated how quickly we shut down those trying to import violence from other states, and we’ll continue to do so,” Kemp said.
