WILL poll: Evers’ approval drops below 50%

By M.D. Kittle

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers’ numbers have sunk in yet another poll, with the Democrat below 50 percent approval heading into next year’s election.

The poll of 1,000 Wisconsin registered voters, conducted by renown pollster Scott Rasmussen for the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL), finds Evers’ approval rating at 48 percent, while 47 percent disapprove of the governor’s performance.

Evers’ numbers have slipped since last month, when a Marquette Law School poll found the governor’s approval rating at 50 percent, with disapproval at 43 percent. The liberal has seen his approval ratings plummet 17 points since a late-March 2020 Marquette Law School poll showed Evers enjoyed a 65 percent approval rating, while 29 percent disapproved of his job performance.

President Joe Biden is underwater, according to WILL’s poll, with an approval rating of 47 percent among Wisconsin voters, and a 51 percent disapproval rating.

The poll, conducted from Aug. 22-28, also finds broad support for voter integrity reforms — the kind of legislation that Evers vetoed earlier this year.

Poll results include:

— 87% of voters favor a requirement for every election clerk to use the same standards for correcting errors on absentee ballots – a practice known as ballot curing.

—    84% of Wisconsin voters support the current law requiring everyone to show photo ID before casting a ballot, including majorities of both Republicans and Democrats.

—  76% favor making in-person absentee voting hours the same everywhere across the state, including majorities of both Republicans and Democrats.

—  69% of voters favor a uniform statewide requirement for people voting by mail to provide a copy of a photo ID with their ballot, including majorities of both Republicans and Democrats.

—   65% of voters favor a ban on the practice known as ballot harvesting – a measure recently vetoed by Governor Evers, including majorities of both Republicans and Democrats.

“These results indicate that secure elections and uniform election practices are not a partisan issue. Every Wisconsinite deserves the same access and confidence in our elections,” said WiLL Research Director Will Flanders.

Evers’ rejection of every election integrity bill sent to him by the Republican-led Legislature may have something to do with his declining support.

Another poll in July found voters had a net-unfavorable view of the Evers’ performance. Cygnal surveyed 640 general election voters in the Badger State, and found 52 percent oppose a second term for Evers. The governor in June announced that he is running for re-election.  Cygnal’s poll also found 60 percent of those surveyed saying Wisconsin is on the wrong track.

Nearly a third of Wisconsin registered voters strongly disapprove of Evers, according to the WILL poll. Forty percent strongly disapprove of Biden. The sample included equal numbers of Biden and Trump supporters.

According to the poll, 36 percent of Wisconsin voters would prefer a candidate supporting policies like those of former President Donald Trump, followed by 23 percent that favor traditional Democratic policies. Socialist-leaning policies garnered 18 percent support, while 16 percent say they favor traditional Republican policies.

  • Evers allowed Kenosha to burn. Biden is out of control. Now is the time for another recall movement.
Robin Vos, Wisconsin DEMANDS a full AZ style forensic audit of all election materials to begin immediately. The people may forgive mistakes if you help now. They will never forget if you oppose finding the truth.

  • I recommended to the Legislature to do a FOIA request for all letters, emails and phone calls from Evers to the people in D.C. running Wisconsin. This moron has not made a single decision that did not come directly from the DNC.

  • The poll must have been taken in Dane Country because I can’t even believe these numbers. His support among “Kennedy democrats”, those older than 60 and most likely to vote is nowhere near even 33%. His major support comes from teachers union members and that is it.

  • How was it ever 50%. The man is as dishonest, unethical, unprincipled, and immoral as Biden. Just like Biden (but on the state level) he is trying to completely ruin the state and the country. Anybody in favor of him must be a Communist.

  • Evers does not have my approval in any shape or form. His excessive mandates and lockdowns during the pandemic, unemployment debacle, treatment of small business, his lack of attention to downtown Madison riots and the Kenosha riots and fires will be his legacy to Wisconsin. Evers letter to Jacob Blake on the one year anniversary of the Kenosha fires took the cake. Our self proclaimed “Plymouth Progressive” woke Governor considers Jacob to be a victim and hero. Forget about Kenosha, forget about the mother of his children who he abused or his children he put in harms way when he resisted Police and pulled a knife. Evers does not care about the people of Wisconsin and he has proved it in so many different ways.
